What actually is "stammering"? Is stammering really a "communication" disorder? True revelations on stammering
Everyone affected by Stammering should read this
"Stammering" has been long been regarded as a communication/psychological disorder, which affects people by impeding the smooth flow of speech. Stammering usually occurs in most people between the age of 2 to 5 yeras, after which most people recover rather naturally without any speech therapy. However, Stammering is seemed to prolong in people even for a long time, sometimes throughout their entire life. It is estimated that 20% of all children go through Stammering, with boys mostly affected than girls
Stammering and Stuttering. What's the difference?
More often, Stammering has been associated with "Stuttering". Sometimes, the word Stuttering itself is used in place of Stammering. However, please note that Stuttering is different from stammering. Stuttering refers to the condition where an affected person may exhibit improper speech characterized by broken works. For example, "I am going t-t-t-t-to school", "where are you g-g-g-going" . On the otherhand, Stammering refers to the condition where a person may not even be able to start a word; for example, "Th-th-th-th-ank you", "p-p-p-p-pick up the phone" . The words Stammering and Stuttering are often confused with each other but they are both different. In fact, Stammering is an advanced and worsened stage of stuttering where the person may not even be able to utter a particular word, let alone stutter in the middle of a sentence.
Stuttering in children often turn into Stammering when they grow up. Stammering/stuttering can be easily cured in children whereas it may be difficult to cure in adults. Stammering can seriously affect the mindset and personality of a person and hinder his/her growth in the society or in a workplace
Some stammerers may be able to speak perfectly fine when they are alone, or if they are speaking to a pet animal or reading in front of a mirror. It may also be noticed that a stammerer may be able to speak normally at times. It's also seen that stammerers can speak perfectly well when they are in a hyper-excited mood such as joy or anger. It's also interesting to note that no one stammers while singing. Stammerers may find it difficult to utter particular words, particularly those starting with "C","D", "K","P", "Q" and "T"
Many stammerers try to hide their stammering that many people, even close friends and relatives don't know that the person stammers. They also tend to substitute easier words in place of ones which they find difficult to pronounce. Many people prefer to keep silent when they face situations where they need to utter a difficult word. Due to this, many stammerers may appear rather arrogant in front of others
Stammering is curable through proper speech therapy and other means such as breathing techniques and meditation
Causes of Stammering and its treatment
Stammering is said to develop from a variety of reasons, though no one has found out the actual scientific cause. Stammering may be hereditary in some cases, but stammering mostly occurs in children as a result of discrepancies in learning speech when they first learn to speak. Once they develop an improper mode of speech marked by broken flow of words, it may turn into stammering as they grow up. Other external factors such as fear, ill treatment or physical deformities can also develop stammering in children. It's very essential that parents closely monitor their kids and take them for an early treatment if they find any signs of stammering in them
So far, no one in this world has formulated a specific treatment procedure to cure Stammering. There is no external Medicine to cure Stammering. Stammering can be cured only by practical treatment methods such as speech therapies or meditation. Different speech therapists around the world undertake different methods to cure Stammering. Some may be effective, and some may not be effective. Success in overcoming stammering depends upon the experience of the therapist and the capacity of the stammerer to learn and adapt to the techniques
Benjamin Nathaniel Bogue is one of the leading Stammering speech therapists in the world. Partha Bagchi is one of the renowmed stammering therapists in India. Many therapists around the world try to make money through people who are affected by Stammering. However, the above two men are one of those few persons who have dedicated themselves to the cause of Stammering Cure, and are offering speech therapy courses at very affordable fees. These are great men who have gone through stammering in their own life and cured it through self-invented techniques
A new revelation in the field of Stammering
For many years, Stammering is considered to be psychological problems in humans associated with lack of co-ordination between the centers of the brain and the mouth, caused due to a self-developed incorrect speech mode of the individual. However, researchers have shed light upon the field of stammering through recent tests which have showed that Stammering is connected with a "physical" problem caused due to the nerve impulses between the organs of the mouth and the Basal Ganglia, a part of the brain
Basal Ganglia is basically associated with the co-ordination of physical movements of our body parts. The over secretion of a chemical enzyme secreted by a part of the Basal Ganglia, called "Dopamine" is said to cause stammering. Due to this, the affected person will have problems in properly synchronizing the utterance of a word with the nerve impulses sent by the brain. Due to the deformity, the affected person will be having problems in receiving impulses from the brain to initiate a particular word or syllable
This is the reason why a stammerer can sing perfectly without any problem. When you sing, you need not pre-medidate any word or syllable, nor do you need to recollect and initiate any word or syllable deliberately from your memory, as all words come in a rhythmic flow. Researchers are now making experiments to discover a medicine that will control the secretion of "Dopamine" thus controlling stammering in humans. Till, then we'll just have to wait
Useful Tips and suggestions for Stammerers
1. Never demoralise yourself for the reason of being a stammerer. Always remember, "Everyone speak in a different way, you are one of them. No one else has to worry about how you speak". So, don't hate yourself for being a stammerer
2. Remember that you are just another human being, Stammering does not make you inferior than others. You still possess unique qualities and talents that others may not possess
3. Don't substitute easier words in place of words that are difficult to pronounce. Many stammerers follow this habit, but this will only worsen your stammering. If you feel uncomfortable saying a word, better stay silent
4. Don't make artificial physical movements of parts of the head and mouth when you speak. Remember that Stammering is concerned with the brain. It has nothing to do with your external parts of the body
5. Always have a positive frame of mind and believe that you can overcome stammering. Always believe in the "Impossible is nothing" motto

I am suffering from this problem since childhood and i am trying to remove it. Now i have realized that stammering is in my mind, there shud be a clever trick to remove stammering from brain. if anyone has then plz send it to me at fasiullah_vr@yahoo.com
I, myself is a stutterer if not a stammerer. I have seen doctors for this problem couple of times before.
At the very begining of this stutering problem, I'd social fobia. I used to be a very friendly and out-going person, I couldnt remember why I started to stutter. It just started when I was 16. I guess it all started when I tried too hard to pronounce every word to perfection. Then I tend to repeat the word when I cant get it 100% perfect.
Eventually, I started to stutter. To a certain extent, it made me nervous whenever I have to speak, and what the writer said was so true, I strated to substitute words that I doubt I can pronouce with some simpler ones.
After years of attempt to cure stuttering problem, I eventually minimise the frequecy of stuttering. I just try to read out loud in my room, say 3 articles per day and try to jot down how many times of stoppping during thr reading. Also, I may tend to read words worngly/add some word which doesnt appear in article. Eg. I stop about 13 times for adding / wrongly read the words, 11 times of stuttering on this article.
This is my experience and way to cure. hope it helps.
hi friends i dont think stammering is incurable. but yes one has to face a lot of mental and emotional turmoil as one becomes an object of ridicule for people ,something to be made fun of, treated like scum....i have undergone the feeling and i have come out of the habit without going to any doctor or anybody. they say one bullet is enough to kill the enemy if it hits at the right spot..same way i followed a simple principle which was to act confident and interact as much as you can-dont run for cover. go out and interact as much as you can-you've got something to prove. you were born with this problem but dont die with it. god bless evry1
