Many of you may be contemplating upon joining the Kontera affiliate PPC(pay-per-click) program to earn money online. Though Kontera ads are a wonderful source of enhancing your affiliate earning potential through contextual ads apart from predominant link ads like those of Google adsense or Yahoo publisher network, Kontera affiliate program has its own drawbacks. Unlike Google adsense,Yahoo publisher network or Chitika ads which are phenomenally content target-oriented, Kontera ads match well only with specific keywords which may not prove useful for most of your websites. Moreover, a basic feature observed in Kontera ads is that they don't have a higher potential to attract visitors to click on ads, which means that your websites will have a relatively lower CTR(click-through-rate)

Unlike Google adsense ads which appear as links on your webpages along with enticing ad descriptions on top, Kontera ads are embedded within texts or phrases as inline ads, which appear as double-underlined texts. Many visitors may mistake these texts for normal web links, and as a result, may ignore them. Though your eCPM may be higher, your CTR(click-through-rate) will be much lower.

Of course, Kontera ads serve as an additional earning tool on your hubs apart from Google adsense. However, if your hub doesn't possess proper keyword content, your ads may not fetch you an effective click-through-rate(CTR). Moreover, even if a visitor checks out inline ads within the text, he may not click on the Ad if he is not interested

For example, if a visitor checks the Ad within the text "Attorney", he won't be interested in clicking if the text pops out an Ad for online dictionary to find out the meaning for the word "Attorney". Instead, if the text pops out an Ad for a company referring clients to legal attorneys, the visitor may be much more interested in clicking the Ad, since the Ad matches the content and information that he was looking for. In comparison, Adsense provides high content-targeted ads which have the capacity to attract more visitors, ultimately resulting in better click rates.

If you are a Hubber and if you consider that you could make lot of money with Kontera ads, my sincere advice to you would be to think otherwise. Because, Kontera ads have been proven to produce very less revenue when compared to Google adsense. Unless your hub contains a whole lot of unique content and visitor-targeted keywords, your hub will not accrue any substantial revenue through Kontera ads. Believe me!!! even a low-ranked hub with lesser quality can generate a better click rate with Adsense than a hub with unique quality content employed with Kontera ads

Many hubbers have reported that the CTR(click-through-rate) on their Adsense ads is almost 10 times higher than that of Kontera Ads. Further, the money that they generate through Adsense is nearly 20 times higher as compared to Kontera. Many people have reported that it takes months to reach the $100 limit through Kontera, whereas they were able to reach the $100 through Google Adsense in weeks, sometimes in just a matter of days.

Some people do argue that Kontera ads are better than Google adsense in terms of better CTR and income. It's very much true but only to a little extent. High paying Kontera ads will be typically part of a massive website with high target-content. Moreover, such sites will be designed very much professional from a business point of view. If you are a Hubber who writes hubs mostly with topics related to entertainment or fun as opposed to business-oriented topics, Kontera ads will just be a negligible source of revenue. As such, it's worth making a conclusion that Kontera ads can only serve as an additional revenue tool along with Adsense

Thank you for the great information. I agree that it may not be a huge earner, but also, if it is another way to make money from your hub then it is worth doing, even if it is just supplemental to the other ways of making money

this was extremely helpful in trying to figure out exactly what Kontera is and how it works, and the pros and cons of using it. in fact, you explained it better than the Kontera site itself which really helped me to understand the workings of Kontera. especially since besides my one-hub account (lol) there is another hubber (clarkfarley) who would also be using the same Kontera account should we decide to go forward. this will definitely help us to make a well-educated decision.

I found your hub on the first page of Google :)

But my question was if Hubpages allowed Kontera ads anymore. I was thinking of adding the ad program, but when I went to the earnings page, Kontera ads were not listed as a source of income. If this is the case, can you confirm?

I read about kontera for hubpages and signed up for it last week and still haven't figured out how to place it on my hubs. After reading this article i think I will not bother. thanks for the info..esp. for a newbie like me.
